Mackintosh House Guidebook

  • Make a Selection

The Hunterian Art Gallery houses the major holding of the work of the internationally acclaimed Scottish architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). It also contains an important collection of work by his wife, the designer and artist Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh (1864-1933). The Hunterian's unrivalled Mackintosh Collection is founded on their Estate and the contents of their Glasgow house at 6 Florentine Terrace, close to where the gallery now stands.

This detailed and richly illustrated guidebook tells the story of the Florentine Terrace house, both as a work of art created out of an ordinary end-of-terrace property, and as the home, from 1906-1914, of this remarkable couple. The later story is also told of the reconstruction of its principal interiors as The Mackintosh House within the Hunterian Art Gallery.

The book features text by Senior Curator and Professor of Mackintosh Studies, Pamela Robertson, with photography specially commissioned from Michael Kuzma, Glasgow.
