WHO ARE WE, AND WHAT DO WE DO?
We're GU Heritage Retail Limited (GUHRL), a subsidiary company of the University. We run the University Gift Shop, the Hunterian Art Gallery Shop, and the online shop, as well as various other aspects of University of Glasgow retail. All of our profit is reinvested in the University.
OUR TEAM
We are a small, highly motivated team with a wide range of skills, backgrounds and experiences. Many of us are current or former students of the University, which means we can usually be relied on for a wealth of handy information - from the nearest place to get some delicious cannoli to the best study spaces in the library. All of us are passionate about making sure that everyone shopping with us on campus or online has the best possible experience.
WHAT DO WE SELL IN OUR SHOPS?
The main University Gift shop stocks a wide range of University clothing and accessories alongside an eclectic mix of gifts and stationery suitable for all occasions. Many of these lines are by local makers and artists or have been commissioned specially by the shop - so there's a good chance of finding something you won't see anywhere else!
We also sell a wide range of books, with a section dedicated to the Hunterian Museum collection. This covers topics like the Antonine Wall, the classical world, scientific and medical discoveries, and dinosaurs and fossils. Alongside these, there are books on Scottish and Glaswegian history and culture, lifestyle, well-being and crafts, and special interest books about the University itself.
The Hunterian Art Gallery shop has an extensive selection of books and gifts related to the work of the artist and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries, plus other artists whose work features in the Hunterian collection (including Whistler, the Scottish Colourists and the Glasgow Boys). The shop also carries limited edition products and catalogues to complement special exhibitions and works on display in the Gallery.
The online shop sells a rotating range of products from both of our brick-and-mortar shops, together with bespoke and web-exclusive items. Shipping is available world-wide.
HOW TO FIND US
The main University Gift Shop is located on the ground floor of the north front of the Gilbert Scott Building (also known as the Main Building), facing onto University Avenue and directly opposite the flagpole/Hunter Memorial. It is most easily accessed from the North front of the building, through the main gate or the memorial gate.
The Hunterian Art Gallery Shop is located just inside the entrance to the Art Gallery and the Mackintosh House, on the ground floor. The Gallery building is adjacent to the University library, which sits across the road from the main building on the other side of University Avenue.
ACCESSIBILITY
The Gift Shop has a raised area at the back of the store that is reached by a small set of steps. This may not be accessible for all visitors. There is an accessible toilet located in the shop foyer.
The entrance to the Hunterian Art Gallery is elevated but can be reached by ramp or stairs. There are accessible toilets in the Art Gallery which can be reached by lift.
