This smart suffragette is ready to march for her right to vote, sporting the vibrant colours of the women's suffrage movement on her sash, rosette and hat.
The suffragettes deliberately used dress and fashion to resist and subvert negative depictions of the movement, attending demonstrations in their best clothes and identifying themselves with pieces of jewellery, ribbon, or other accessories.
These beautiful decorations are handmade in Thailand and India according to Fair Trade principles. Many of them feature the traditional Indian technique of zardozi embroidery. The manufacturer, St. Nicolas, is a member of the British Association of Fair Trade Suppliers.
