Mary Queen of Scots Tea Towel

  • Make a Selection

Limited edition tea towel to mark the Hunterian Art Gallery exhibition The Afterlife of Mary, Queen of Scots. Featuring the quote "In my end is my beginning". This is the saying which Mary embroidered on her cloth of estate whilst in prison in England and is the theme running through her life. Find out more about the exhibition here.

The image is based on a portrait by Francois Clouet, painted around the time of Mary's marriage to the Dauphin of France (the future Francis II) in 1558. Mary became Queen of France when Francis was crowned in 1559, but he died less than a year later and Mary returned to Scotland - a queen twice over and widowed once by the age of 18.

Quote on reverse reads: "To be kind to all, to like many and to love a few, to be needed and wanted by those we love, is certainly the nearest we can come to happiness."
