Hunterian Treasures - The Antonine Wall: An Illustrated Guide
The Roman archaeology collection at the University of Glasgow is extensive, diverse and of international significance. It contains the major holding of Roman material from the West of Scotland and the World Heritage Site of the Antonine Wall, ranging from the legionary 'distance slabs', unique in the Roman Empire, to everyday domestic artefacts including hundreds of shoes belonging to the men, women and children of the occupation. The Hunterian's collection presents a comprehensive view of life on the most northerly frontier in the Roman Empire and its impact on the physical and cultural landscape.
A new gallery The Antonine Wall: Rome's Final Frontier was opened in 2011.
